Limited edition fine art print of my ‘South Karst Springs’ painting from my collection, "Maps of the Earth We Still Have"

These springs emerge from underground limestone networks that sustain rare aquatic species and provide vital fresh water for surrounding regions. They’re increasingly threatened by groundwater over-extraction, pollution, and altered rainfall patterns caused by climate change, which reduce flow and endanger their unique subterranean biodiversity. 

For this painting, I wanted to evoke a sense of depth and topography within the spring itself, as well as a feeling of flow. I also wanted to evoke a sense of rarity - the center blue formation reminding me of both a pool of water, but also of a gemstone, or something rare and unique. These springs are formed from dissolving limestone, where clear, cool groundwater rises under pressure, creating permanent wetlands. They can be very deep, with some reaching depths of 110 meters below the surface.
