Limited edition fine art print of my ‘Rhineland Raised Bogs’ painting from my collection, "Maps of the Earth We Still Have"

These wetland bogs store large amounts of carbon, support specialized plant and animal communities, and help regulate water flow. Drainage, land-use change, and gradual destruction of flooded areas are putting species at risk and releasing stored greenhouse gases. 

For this painting, I was inspired by the understated gloomy beauty of the Rhineland raised bogs and their flora. Depending on the time of year, they're filled with beautiful white bog cotton, tan heather, dwarf shrubs, green mosses, and red from carnivorous sundews and cranberries. Many of these plants are endangered. Restoration efforts focus on blocking drains, removing invasive species, and managing water levels to support these unique, moisture-dependent species facing alarming rates of decline.
