Limited edition fine art print of my ‘Cape Town Mountain Fynbos’ painting from my collection, "Maps of the Earth We Still Have"

Fynbos on Cape Town is an amazingly rich floral biome supporting over 9000 species, many found nowhere else, a biodiversity treasure. It’s threatened by wildfires, expanding development, and invasive species that disrupt its delicate ecological balance.

My painting inspired by this piece is meant to evoke something very specific: FIRE. And of course, the insane biodiversity of this ecosystem! Fynbos needs fire to survive. Not “tolerates.” Needs. Every 10–14 years, a good burn resets the ecosystem. Old growth is cleared, nutrients are recycled, and many seeds only germinate thanks to smoke and heat cues. It's a dramatic cycle of destruction and rebirth, the ultimate nature makeover. However, Fires that don't happen when they're supposed to are also a problem. These are caused by droughts due to climate change, or caused directly by humans.
