Limited edition fine art print of my ‘Caribbean Coral Reef’ painting from my collection, "Maps of the Earth We Still Have"

These reefs are biodiversity hotspots that act as a natural protective barrier for coastlines. They’re under threat from overfishing, over-tourism, warming waters, coral bleaching from global warming, and coastal development. These coral reefs could disappear in as little as two years. 

For this painting, I wanted to invoke the feeling of water movement and togetherness. I also wanted to add something in to represent the heat that is affecting the reefs. The red topographical lines are a stand-in for this - and they remind me of heat maps. For corals, warmer water temperatures cause them to expel the symbiotic algae that provide them with food (this is that coral bleaching process you’ve likely heard about).
